Sept. 22, 2014 Counsel With the Lord

So things are going great now. We finally had William and Linda come to church and they are still on date for their baptism on October 11. We are super excited about it. When I first got here things were completely dead but now things have turned around. I don't really know what to say this week.

We have been working with a few other people. Sita has been slowly progressing. She has been looking at a lot of anti Mormon stuff and we have been helping her through it. It is definitely a work in progress. Luckily we have a lot of great members here to help us out.

Things have really started to turn around after we started to have the members pray for our investigators by name. Prayer is one of the most important things we do everyday. Prayer is not for us to ask for a million dollars and a mansion in the woods. It is for us to align our will with Gods. To come to the realization that God know what is best. We can ask him through strength to help us get through our trials. But we can't ask them to take them away from us. If he did there would be no point to this life. There would be no test.

As Spencer W. Kimball said, "If all the sick for whom we pray were healed, if all the righteous were protected and the wicked destroyed, the whole program of the Father would be annulled and the basic principle of the gospel, free agency, would be ended. No man would have to live by faith. If joy and peace and rewards were instantaneously given the doer of good, there could be no evil all would do good but not because of the rightness of doing good. There would be no test of strength, no development of character, no growth of powers, no free agency, only satanic controls. Should all prayers be immediately answered according to our selfish desires and our limited understanding, then there would be little or no suffering, sorrow, disappointment, or even death, and if these were not, there would also be no joy, success, resurrection, nor eternal life and godhood."

We must have an Eternal perspective and know our trials are for our benefit. Knowing that God can't take our trials away from us, but can help us through them, we learn how we should pray. To align our will with God's. Come what many and love it. We need to make the most of our experiences that we have. There is a reason why we have to go through what we do. There is some lesson we need to learn. Some lessons unfortunately take longer than others. But ultimately they are to bring us closer to God and get us on the path to return to him. When life is to hard to stand, kneel.

Over the last few weeks I have found the best advice that anyone can give. It is found in Alma 37:37. This is where Alma is getting to the end of his days and is bearing his last and final testimony to his son Helaman. He says.

37 Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for goodyea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning let thy heart be full of thanks unto God; and if ye do these things, ye shall be lifted up at the last day.

This is the point of prayer. To counsel with the Lord. I think this is the best advice anyone can give, because how can you go wrong if you counsel with the Lord about all the decisions you make? You can't. Through this counseling we receive the strength we need to help us through our trials and help us to know what our Heavenly Father would have us do. This Church is True! I love being a missionary! Nothing could be better!
